Sports For Those Visiting The Gulf Coast (Part 3), Mississippi Gulf Coast

Welcome back for part 3 of this series. Pleas keep enjoying these articles.

Part 3 will cover the areas and surrounding areas of Gulfport and Biloxi, MS. This is also know as the Mississppi Gulf Coast.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast has become a hot spot for for many vacationers. With its many casino's and beaches it has attracted people from all across the country. It is also a great sporting destination. People have come for the many great golf course and the easy access fishing. But there are so many other things for the sports enthusiast visiting the area to enjoy. Things like hunting, tennis, and motor sports are on the top of the list. For those that like more traditional professional sports, you can check out the Biloxi Shuckers a Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fishing -

Fishing is big business for both Gulfort and Biloxi commercially. With their locations being right on the Gulf of Mexico you can surely understand why. Recreational fishing ranks right up there in the local economy. There are some bays and lakes to fish such as Bay St. Louis and the Back Bay of Biloxi, but most venture out into the deeper water of the Gulf for bigger fish and a bigger fight. There are many charter services but we recommend the following:

Golf Courses-
There are many great quality golf courses in the area. Thanks to the Casino's that either built their own golf course or have partner with one you will hardly ever find any of these courses not in pristine condition. Here are our top five recommended courses. Being affil;iated or part of a csino you will always find a stay and play package available.

Fallen Oak - Owned and operated by the Beau Rivage Casino and MGM property this course is also home to the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, a Champions Tour event.

Grand Bear Golf Course - This was one of the first casino golf course in the area. Operated by Harrah's Gulf Coast a Ceasers Entertainment property. Grand Bear has also hosted a Shell's Wonderful World of Golf event.

Shell Landing - A Davis Love design affiliated with IP Casino a Boyd gaming property is a beautiful well maintained golf course. Excellent staff, food and practice facilities.

The Bridges Golf Club at Hollywood Casino - This is the only Arnold Palmer design in the entire state of Mississippi.

The Preserve Golf Club - This course doesn't leave a stone un-turned. A very friendly staff with two distinct 9's, as one winds through trees and the other around marsh, is what makes this course special.

Hunting -

Even though most of the hunting in Mississippi is done further north in the state there is still hunting in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. There are areas to go hunt for deer that are not far and some areas to go duck hunting. If you are looking to experience it all with lodging check out Antlers and Wings Hunting Plantation. They also have clay shooting, fishing, and lodging on property. If you are just looking more for a duck hunt then the guys over at Team Brodie Charters can help you out. Be sure and inquire at either/both places if the proper licencing is provided with their fee's.

MotorSports -

For those that are into car racing and drag racing there is only one place to do so in the area. For those that want to see a drag race can head over to the GulfPort Dragway.

Running -

Although running has become more of a singular sport more than a group sport some still find it fun to run races. The areas of Gulfport and Biloxi have many fun and eventful races you can run. There are a number of benefit runs as well as runs tied into other events like the Gulf Coast Rod Run which is with a car show and BBQ throw-down. For runs in Gulport, Biloxi and the surrounding areas - CLICK HERE.

Tennis -

Tennis has become a somewhat harder sport to find a good quality tennis cort to play on that is open to the public. We have two places if you are looking to play that you can check out. One is the A.J. Holloway Sports Complex located in Biloxi. The other also in Biloxi is Bowman Tennis Complex.

For your convenience our parent company, Hrubes Sportz, is an affiliate partner of Best Western and Hilton. Hilton owns 13 brands including Double Tree, Hampton, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn to name just a few.

Sports For Those Visiting the Gulf Coast (Part 2), New Orleans, LA

Welcome back for the second part of this series. We hope you enjoyed reading part one and will continue to enjoy the rest.

Part 2 will cover the area of New Orleans, LA

For your convenience, our parent company Hrubes Sportz is an affiliate partner of Best Western Hotels and Hilton Worldwide, which owns 13 brands including Double Tree, Hampton, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn

Now when most people think of New Orleans they immediately think of Parties, Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street. There is so much more than that, after all they don't call Louisiana the "Sportsman's Paradise" for nothing. New Orleans has a great deal of sporting events you can go watch as well as sports you can take part in.

To start off all the things you can do in the New Orleans Area we will first Highlight all the Professional Sports. The most popular of all Professional Teams in New Orleans is of course the New Orleans Saints football team. From September to at least the end of December when the team plays at home you can go see them in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Adjacent to the Superdome is the Smoothie King Center and the home of the New Orleans Pelicans. You can catch the Pelicans at home, during basketball season, between mid October and mid April. Also playing in the Smoothie King Center are the New Orleans Voodoo. The Voodoo are an Arena Football League team that plays between April and August. If baseball is your thing then head just out of the city to Metairie to Zephyr Field and watch the New Orleans Zephyrs. The Zephyrs are a Triple-A Afiliate of the Miami Marlins. And finally rounding out the list of professional sporting events in the area is The Zurich Classic of New Orleans. This is the areas only PGA Tour event and is held annually in April. this years event is being held April 20th - 26th.

Now we get down to the more recreational sports that you can go watch or participate in.

Fishing -

Fishing is a big deal in New Orleans. Especially since New Orleans takes pride in their fresh seafood. You do not have to travel far to get fishing in, even if you do not have your own boat. Just grab a pole and go dip it in Lake Pontchartrain. However make sure you have your fishing licence. If you have a boat there are so many places to go and they range in 10 min to 45 min from downtown. Feel like fishing in the Gulf of Mexico? You can be there in an hour. If you prefer a guide service there a many around, it just depends on what type of fishing you want to do and what fish you want to catch.

If you want to fish fresh, brackish, and saltwater marshes only a short drive away is Lafitte where you can find Jean Lafitte Fishing Charters and Big Dog Fishing Charters. Perhaps you want more of a coastal area strictly for saltwater trout and redfish? You can go down to an area called Shell Beach to see Salty Dog Charters. If you are looking to go offshore than head down to Venice, LA and use Super Strike Charters or Relentless Sport-fishing Charters. Most all charters will either have lodging or can assist you in any lodging needs close to them.

Golf Courses -

Here are the area's top Golf Courses listed alphabetically by course name.
English Turn Golf and Country Club - Former home to the areas PGA Tour event and a Private Course that offers select tee times to outside play.
Lakewood Golf Club - Located only minuets from downtown a very well maintained course with a very friendly staff.
Oak Harbor Golf Club - Just 15 minutes from downtown this is one of the best 18-hole championship layouts in the area.
TPC of Louisiana - Home of the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Play where tour players play. A great maintained and great quality golf course.

For other golf courses in these areas and to book select tee times - Click Here

Horse Racing -

The Areas only place for Horse Racing is the the Fairgrounds Race Course and Slots, a Churchill Downs Company. Also the home of New Orleans famous Jazz Fest, if you like placing a few bets on the horses this is the place to be. Races usually take place in the Fall and Winter months, but you may find a few in August or September.

Hunting -

Although hunting is a big sport for those that live in the area, if you were to hunt close to the city you are probably going to be duck hunting. this is not to say you can't hunt things other than ducks, it's just with New Orleans surrounded by mostly marsh it is hard to find deer. For an accurate account of what you can hunt in the New Orleans area ask the experts of Louisiana Marsh Guide Service or the experts of Fin and Feather Guides.

Motor Sports-

New Orleans only Motor Sports track is at NOLA MotorSports Park. This is not your typical MotorSport park, here you can drive a Race Car, Exotic Cars, and Formula One Cars. This park is North America's only Drive and Ride Grand Prix Experience. If you don't have what it takes to take a ride yourself you can catch their inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana being held April 10th - 12th, this year.

Running -

Running is a different style in New Orleans. Some races will take place going from bar to bar or you get dressed up like in the Red Dress Run. Even guys wear a red dress. There are some more traditional runs like the long standing Crescent City Classic, which now has five races throughout the year, and more that can be found by visiting - Running in the USA

Tennis -

One of the only places to play tennis in the New Orleans area outside of a public park that may have a court or a private country club is the Pepsi tennis Center at City Park. Noted as one of the best tennis centers in the entire state of Louisiana.

Stay tuned for Part 3 that will cover all the sports and sporting venues in the Gulport and Biloxi,MS areas.
